In this session James will delve into regulation and readiness to learn for pupils with learning difficulties through an exploration of the function of working memory, long term memory, cognitive load, sensory processing and their interaction with our stress response system.

The session will reflect on managing cognitive and sensory overload in the school environment and ask practitioners to evaluate their own environments. As part of the session James will share an environmental audit tool (used by Sunningdale School) to support delegates reflection’s post session.

This session is for both special and mainstream settings. It is ideal for leaders looking at their whole school environment, teachers wanting to reflect on their own pupils or classrooms or any member of staffing wanting to better understand memory, cognitive load and sensory processing for pupils with learning difficulties.
