Establishing Appropriate SEND Provision: Defining the pupils you have and the provision they need

Event Details

n this online workshop we will explore the specific characteristics schools and curriculum leaders could take into account in order to understand the specific profiles of their learners with complex SEND, beyond the usual ‘labels’ of PMLD, SLD and MLD. We will consider which characteristics of learning (including developmental assessment) might be valuable in defining provision to meet those needs at either an individual level or in defining specific curriculum pathways (for larger SEN bases and special schools).

This will support schools in defining the accurate use of pedagogy, curricula and assessment.

This session is designed to support leaders, SENCo’s and teachers in their reflection and is underpinned, in part, by the knowledge developed via our sessions on:

  • Unlocking the Power of Inclusive Communication
  • Play based approaches to teaching those with SLD
  • Using the Engagement Model & Engagement Motivators
  • Understanding Cognitive and Sensory Overload (and considerations to manage this) for pupils with Learning Disabilities
  • Supporting Inclusion Through Engagement Driven Play
  • Developing an Approach to Personalised Assessment

Presented by James Waller, Headteacher Sunningdale School.
