PUPIL PREMIUM

PURPOSE:

The government believes that that Pupil Premium which is additional to main school funding is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

Schools also receive funding for children who have been ‘looked after’ continuously for more than 6 months and children of service personnel.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The government believes that head teachers and school leaders should decide how to use Pupil Premium. They are held accountable for the decisions they make.

FUNDING:

In most cases the Pupil Premium is paid to schools, allocated to them for every pupil who receives free school meals. Schools decide how to use the funding. This year Sunningdale has received:

£24,300 (£900 per child)

We intend to use this funding this year 2013-14 to support the development of speaking and listening skills, early literacy and numeracy skills, ICT linked to accessibility and communication

Sunningdale School tracks pupil progress for those children eligible for FSM. We have high expectations for our children therefore it is our aim that all our children including those entitled to FSM not only to achieve their targets but where possible exceed expectations and make accelerated progress.

Targets are set by classroom staff with advice from relevant professionals. The targets are tracked termly so pupil progress can be monitored. This ensures we can measure achievement and identify quickly if any child requires additional support.
