Language & Learning Partnership Approach: · The Language and Learning Partnership (LLP) is a multi –agency partnership between staff from the LA Education Specialist Support Services and the Complex Language and Learning Team from the Speech and Language Therapy Service – Health. · LLP is a service for children between the ages of 2-11, who, because of their moderate to severe language and/or learning difficulties, are having difficulty accessing the curriculum. · We offer advice, support and intervention to schools, voluntary, private and statutory agencies. · We aim to empower both individual staff and settings as a whole, to develop their own skills in improving outcomes for children. · LLP also recognise the necessity to address the needs of the ‘whole child' and work alongside other professionals and parents. Resources and Service delivery:
· One full time Teacher, two part time Associate Teachers, 2 part time HLTA's, and two part time Speech and Language Therapists (Complex Language and Learning) · One part time admin assistant · Requests for involvement with individual children around curriculum access, including requests from other support services, are through onward referrals from involved professionals or through the CAF (Common Assessment Framework) process. · Referral for specific Speech and Language Therapy is via the direct SaLT referral route. · LLP aim to act on all referrals within 2 weeks of receipt. · LLP, Setting and Parents work together to develop a package of support. · Resources are available for schools to borrow. · Requests for school based INSET should be made directly to the Partnership using the training booklet Activities: · Training for teaching assistants/teachers/whole school · Consultation, data gathering interview etc with SENCO's/Class staff · Individual pupil assessment (e.g. observation diagnostic, etc) leading to advice and support or intervention programmes. · Intervention programmes can also be targeted at small groups and schools · Advice for parents supporting their children at home · Programmes of support are agreed between all involved and include any monitoring, follow up and review stages. · Develop and support appropriate training for the LA · Complete joint assessments with other agencies Criteria to access the service:
· The child should be on the SEN register and working well below the national average. · The child is having significant difficulties with language and/or communication and/or learning · Planned relevant targets have not been met or no progress has been made as a result of school based intervention programmes
Portage
Portage is a home based service for pre-school children with significant additional needs. Children can be referred to the service by a professional working with the child or by the parent themselves. Multi-agency professionals consider the requests for service against the agreed guidance and referrers and parents are informed of the decision.
An initial visit is made by the Lead Portage Teacher to explain the service and arrange for a Portage Visitor to visit the home at a mutually convenient time.
Portage Visitors assess the needs of the child and work in partnership with their parents to build on their abilities and develop new skills. Portage Visitors and parents discuss and agree long term goals. The Portage Visitor then outlines carefully structured activities to enable parents to support and encourage effective learning for their child.
