New Build

The new Sunningdale School is a complete new build at Clinton Place, Doxford.

The £13.3m new school is taking shape as part of Sunderland City Council’s ongoing programme of investments and improvements for young people and families. It is part of the City Council’s £45m programme of school updates that’s delivering life-changing facilities for young people.

Groundworks began in the summer of 2021 and, it is due to open in September 2022.

The new-build project, which is being delivered by Kier, replaces our current facilities at our present site in Springwell, Sunderland.

The new Sunningdale school has total floor space equivalent to around two football pitches, bigger classrooms, extra hall and therapy provisions including 9 sensory rooms that include rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, sound therapy, a range of  sensory facilities and a brand new, unique (and completely bespoke) ‘Explore Room’ for our informal learners in the Semi-formal Explore Pathway.

Pre-formal classrooms will have storage area for the mobility equipment that may be needed for the pupils with physical disabilities, therapeutic space and large hygiene rooms. Semi-formal Play classrooms will have a series of rooms we plan to develop into a role-play village.

We regularly share updates of the new building in our monthly news videos available here
