This half term class 1’s topic is homes and houses. We have started this topic by looking at the traditional tale of the three billy goats gruff. First we looked at the structure of the story and some children were able to act out the story taking the role of the different characters. We then talked about the importance of the bridge in the story. We are currently learning to build different bridges with lots of different materials.
As a class we decided to make a house for the billy goats gruff like we made houses for the three little pigs last term.
We started this project by looking at our own houses and finding the similarities and differences between them. We are going to make some house pictures using the 2d shape we are learning about before deciding what materials we need to make a fantastic house for the three billy goats gruff.
We are also going to be looking at the story by Julia Donaldson called a squash and a squeeze and learning about the house the old lady lives in and which animals she decided to invite to live with her.
Through both are stories this half term we are going to try and join in with the repeated phrase “Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge” (Three Billy Goats Gruff) and “My house is a squash and a squeeze” (Squash and a Squeeze).
